This Microlot (Caturra, Castillo) comes from William Buitrago’s 11 hectare farm located 1960 masl in China Alta in the municipality of Ibague, Tolima state of Colombia.

La Esperanza means hope in Spanish and this farm is located on the steep valley walls of Rio La China which is used as the water source for irrigation and processing of the coffee at Finca La Esperanza

Like the rest of the country, the region suffered from the period of unrest as the rebel groups such as FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) took control of the land for many years.

When peace and order returned to Tolima in 2012, it enjoyed healthy growth of coffee production and enabled safe access to the buyers in international market to small farm producers such as William Buitrago.

La Esperanza is part of 40 independent coffee growers that work with Pergamino, the business organisation who has pioneered the commercialisation of their coffee and help connect the producers to the specialty buyers who pay good premiums for their high quality coffee.
